Who are we?

Who are we?

Welcome to The Learn Academy

At The Learn Academy students aged 16 to 19 embark on a distinct educational journey.

Unlike other international schools, we focus solely on delivering an exceptional experience tailored for students in their final years of schooling. With a strong emphasis on fostering confidence, achieving academic excellence, and preparing for global university pathways, we pave the way for their successful futures.

How we started

A Vision for Academic Excellence

Our journey began with a successful tutoring centre in Barcelona. Recognising the overwhelming demand from students and parents for a full-time program, we decided to channel our skills and commitment to quality education into creating The Learn Academy—a unique pre-university college experience—the only one of its kind in Barcelona.

In response to the high demand and the opportunity to impact education in Barcelona, The Learn Academy was founded.  Starting with 9 full-time students, we are now nearing 100% capacity, with approximately 60 students enrolled for the upcoming academic year.

Founded by Hannah Grech, The Learn Academy emerged with a vision to redefine education in Barcelona, providing teenagers with more than just a traditional learning experience. Everything we do is tailored to this age group, from our centrally located campus in Barcelona to our expert teachers in their respective fields. Our commitment to academics is strong, with a focus on creating a learning environment where every student can achieve their own potential and goals.

We also offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities and place a strong emphasis on guiding our students toward their post-school paths. At TLA, we specialise in one thing and one thing only, and we excel at it. Every resource is strategically allocated to ensure our students receive the finest education available

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the criteria for admission?

At TLA, we look carefully through each child’s application. We look for motivated learners with solid academic transcripts and strong English language skills. We do not stipulate specific grade entry requirements, but we do want to see evidence of commitment to learning.

What are GCSEs?

The General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the GCSEs, are the main qualifications taken by 14-16 year olds in the national British curriculum.

The International GCSE qualifications, or the iGCSEs, are equivalent, grade-for-grade, to the UK GCSEs. The iGCSEs are studied in 80 countries around the world, and in many private schools in the UK, and are accepted by universities around the world.

GCSEs are subject-specific qualifications and involve studying the theory of a subject combined with some investigative work. Students ordinarily work towards the GCSEs full-time for two years, although sometimes they can be completed quicker.

What are the A Levels?

The International A-levels are a globally recognised qualification, equivalent to the UK A-levels, offering a rigorous and flexible curriculum. On par with the International Baccalaureate (IB), A Levels are highly respected and accepted by top universities worldwide.

Our Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Levels (IAL) are recognised by leading institutions in Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, the UK, the United States, and across Asia. These qualifications provide students with the academic foundation needed to succeed in higher education.

Typically completed by students aged 16 to 19, A Levels represent the final stage of secondary education, offering a clear and respected path to university entry.

WHERE ARE THE IA LEVELS RECOGNISED?

Edexcel International Advanced Level qualifications are recognised by universities in the UK and internationally. You can find the growing list of universities accepting these qualifications on the Pearson Edexcel University recognition list.

WHERE WILL OUR STUDENTS TAKE EXAMS?

We are an official Pearson Edexcel testing centre and our students take their exams at school. The main exam period is in May and June each year. There are also opportunities for students to re sit their exams in October and January.

SUBJECTS AND EXAMS

Students can take up to four A Levels, with most universities requiring a minimum of three.

Our students will sit their exams in May/ June each year. This is a two year qualification, with exams occurring at the end of the first year and then again at the end of the second year. A student’s final grade in each subject is comprised of the marks awarded after exams in both the first and second year of the qualification.

What grade levels does TLA admit?

TLA caters for students in the final two years of school. Students join us in the year they turn 16.

This translates to years 12 and 13 in the British curriculum, which is the same as grades 11 and 12 in the American curriculum.

What languages are offered?

All classes will be delivered in English. We also offer Spanish classes to our students.  Spanish classes are divided into two levelled groups. We can offer other languages, such as French, if we have student interest.

What subjects do you offer at A-level?

We have the widest selection of A Levels offered by any school in Barcelona. No subjects are mandatory and students are free to choose a combination of subjects that suit their interests and future university aspirations.
