Looking for a British school in Barcelona for ages 16–19?
Exploring your options? While schools like BSB & Kensington are popular choices, many families are now looking for a more personalised approach to Sixth Form education. At The Learn Academy, students benefit from small classes, tailored support, and a clear path to top universities through A Levels.
There’s more than one path — and not every school will be the right fit
For families exploring British school options in Barcelona, the decision often goes beyond curriculum alone. The final years of school shape confidence, direction, and university outcomes — so finding the right environment matters just as much as the qualification itself.
The right academic fit
Some students thrive in broad academic models. Others do better with a more focused pathway that allows them to go deeper into their strengths.
The right level of support
Class size, teaching style, and personalised guidance can make a significant difference during these final years.

Students aged 16–19 benefit from an environment that feels purposeful, supportive, and designed specifically for this stage.

Daily Life at TLA
The Learn Academy follows the Catalan academic calendar, running from September to June and broken into 3 terms.
Schedule
The school day commences promptly at 8:50 am and concludes at 4:15 pm.
Throughout the day, there are 5 class periods, each lasting 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Compulsory school hours are from 10 am to 3 pm. During this time, students must either attend classes, utilise study rooms on campus, or study outside or in a local cafe.
Each day at 10 am, students must be on campus daily for a 20-minute form group session, where attendance is taken and safety ensured. Any absences prompt email notifications to parents. Sessions cover topics like mental health, cultural celebrations, and global citizenship projects.
Outside of these mandatory hours, students have flexibility to arrive late or depart early from campus.
Study Periods
Using the iPads conveniently located near the entrance, students have the option to sign themselves out and study in nearby cafes or outdoor spaces within a designated radius.
We encourage students to strike a balance between off-campus study periods and utilising the on-site study rooms to maximise productivity.
Study periods play a vital role in A Level preparation, assisting students in effectively managing their homework and study commitments.
Weekly Timetable
TLA includes a weekly assembly into the timetable. It is a time where we come together as a school community, share achievements and announcements, and present awards to celebrate the achievements of our students.
We offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities scheduled through the week, such as Duke of Edinburgh, book club, Model United Nations, and various student-led groups.

Choosing the right school comes with important questions. Here are clear answers to help you understand how The Learn Academy works, and whether it’s the right fit for your child.
Still have questions? Speak to HannahWhat are A Levels?
International A Levels are globally recognised qualifications from the British education system, typically taken by students aged 16–18.
Students specialise in 3–4 subjects, allowing them to focus on their strengths and prepare directly for university. A Levels are widely accepted by leading universities in the UK and internationally.
What grade levels does TLA admit?
We welcome students aged 15 and above, typically entering Years 11, 12, or 13 in the British system (equivalent to Grades 10–12 in the American system).
In some cases, we may accept younger students if they are academically ready and aligned with the A Level pathway.
What is the criteria for admission?
We take a personalised approach to admissions. We look for motivated students with a strong academic foundation and a willingness to engage in their learning.
There are no rigid grade cut-offs, but we do assess each student’s academic background, English level, and overall fit for the programme.
What subjects do you offer at A Level?
We offer a broad range of A Level subjects, depending on student demand. These typically include:
- Mathematics
- Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- Economics and Business
- Psychology
- English Literature
- Spanish
- Art and Design
- Information Technology
- History
Students usually choose three subjects, with some opting for a fourth depending on their goals.
Can my child start at any time during the year?
In many cases, yes. We understand that families relocate at different times of the year.
Entry outside the standard academic calendar is assessed individually to ensure students can transition smoothly into their chosen subjects.
What languages are offered?
All classes are taught in English. We also offer Spanish classes, with students grouped by ability level.
Additional language options may be available depending on student demand.
