Class stucture
Our tutors work with students to build confidence and knowledge
How do we structure the math and English group classes?
All of our tutors are experienced across different national curricula and we have a strong understanding of the British and American approaches taught in the main international schools in Barcelona. Our classes are easily adapted to the American, IB or British Curriculums.
This is what a typical Grade 9 math class might look like:
- Check in with the students and see how they have been going at school over the past week.
- Warm up questions related to the topic. These could be problem solving questions that involve applying the content that’s being taught, or general topic questions to gauge the level of understanding.
- Main lesson: follow the tutor’s activity that’s been pre prepared, or help the student with the questions they are needing urgent help with. Sometimes the lesson will be differentiated to ensure every student is receiving the help they need.
- A fun cool down activity to recap the important aspects of the lesson.
This is what a typical Grade 9 English class might look like:
- Check in with the students and see how they have been going at school over the past week.
- Pre-reading activity: a fun warm up activity to revise key ideas or techniques, or an activity to pre-teach key concepts in the text.
- Reading: a challenging unseen fiction or non-fiction text and reading comprehension.
- Post reading activity: guided textual analysis, with focus on one of the assessment objectives and essay writing in response.
What is the homework club?
These classes help take the frustration out of homework
Has your child ever come home from school and needed help with a specific math question that involved a topic you haven’t looked at in years? Has your child ever needed some help with organising their study time or getting started with their homework? That’s where the homework club comes in. Students bring their study or work from different subjects and the tutor will help them stay on track, understand the content and fill in any gaps in knowledge. These classes help take the frustration out of homework, whilst also keeping the balance at home.
Benefits of after school tutoring
We work closely with students and parents
There are numerous benefits to after school tutoring. Whether it’s consolidating a topic, improving study skills, building a learner’s confidence, or deepening their knowledge beyond their school’s curriculum, our tutors are excited to guide your child on their learning journey. We work closely with students and parents to ensure that our after school classes reflect and build on the topics students are studying in school.
