The strategic advantage of playing to your strengths
How do I get my child the best results so they can get into their dream university and course?
At The Learn Academy, the answer is simple: we let students play to their strengths.
While broad programmes like the IB spread a student's energy across subjects they may not naturally excel in, our A-Level curriculum is deliberately focused. We allow your child to master only the subjects they are truly passionate about and gifted in.
This means no time wasted struggling through misaligned classes. Instead, students dedicate their energy to achieving the highest possible grades in a targeted selection of subjects. It reduces academic anxiety, builds a stronger transcript, and creates a clear, strategic pathway directly to their chosen university.
A-Levels vs IB: at a glance
Both are globally recognised routes to university. The difference is how they get you there — and which one lets your child play to their strengths.
| Comparison | A-Levels Our approach | IB Diploma |
|---|---|---|
| What you study | 3–4 subjects, chosen by the student | 6 subjects across six subject groups, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and CAS |
| Depth vs breadth | Deep specialisation in fewer subjects | Broad exposure across sciences, humanities, arts and languages |
| Assessment style | Mostly final written exams at the end of the course | A mix of exams, internal assessments, the Extended Essay, and oral components throughout |
| Workload pattern | Concentrated effort on a student's strongest subjects | Continuous workload spread across many subjects and components at once |
| Best suited to | Students who already know their strengths and want to focus on them | Students who want to keep options open across many subject areas |
| University pathway | Grades in your strongest subjects go straight into your application | A combined score across six subjects forms your application |
Neither path is "easier" — they simply reward different strengths. At The Learn Academy, we teach A-Levels because they let each student go deep where they're already strong, rather than spreading their effort thin.
Hear from our community
“We came to Barcelona from Australia and after a stint at another school, we were looking for something more motivating and dynamic. The combination of passionate teachers, a great space, and wonderful values is world class. And first class.”
“I can comfortably say it is the best school in Barcelona by a long shot. The class sizes create a close-knit environment that makes even difficult topics entertaining. The teachers genuinely care about student wellbeing, not just grades.”
